Irwell Medical Centre GP’s, Nurses, Managers, Admin staff and PPG members (Patient Participation Group) recently took part in a cancer awareness photoshoot.

The practice is currently promoting the importance of NHS screening programmes as well as self-checking to help prevent various cancer diagnoses. All staff at Irwell Medical Practice actively contact patients and invite them to take part in various NHS screening programmes.

Currently the practice is contacting all female patients eligible for breast screening to make them aware of the NHS screening programme. This year the mobile breast screening unit will be located at Waterfoot Health Centre and all patients due or overdue screening will be invited to attend an appointment there sometime in March.

Jack and Family

Dr Alan Morris a much loved GP at Irwell Medical Practice sadly passed away last year from prostate cancer. His family also took part in the photoshoot. They also regularly take part in fund raising events for prostate cancer.

Dr Morris’s youngest son Jack (Irwell’s Operations Co-Ordinator) and Angela Ormrod (Irwell’s Practice Nurse Manager) recently took part in the ‘Run the Month Challenge’ for prostate cancer.

Other practice staff and their families regularly fundraise by cooking for ‘Food Friday’ and ‘Cake Bake’ challenges. Previous and current Irwell Medical Practice staff who have been affected personally by a cancer diagnosis, actively take part in cancer awareness events outside Irwell Medical Practice.

For further details regarding any NHS screening programmes, please contact the GP practice.
